Common terms
These are the meanings PerLod's docs and Dash give to common words, ordered from account-level terms to service-level ones. For what a status badge means, see Server statuses, Domain statuses, Invoice statuses, or Ticket statuses.
Dash
The product at dash.perlod.com, where you order and manage your services: servers, domains, billing, support, team, and profile. The public website, perlod.com, is for browsing plans. Ordering finishes in Dash, and so does everything after it. "Dashboard" refers only to Dash's home page, not the whole product.
Client Area
The section of these docs that covers Dash itself, as opposed to Services, which covers each product you can buy.
Workspace
The shared account a team works inside.
Service
An active VPS, Dedicated Server, GPU Dedicated Server, or domain attached to your account.
Order
The record created when you buy or renew something, before it becomes a service. A paid order becomes a service. For what an unpaid order looks like, see Server statuses and Domain statuses.
Invoice
The billing record for an order, a renewal, or another payable action. See Invoice statuses explained for what its status means.
Billing cycle
The renewal term of a server: monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. You change it from the server's own Billing tab in Dash, not from the main Billing page.
Your server's first billing cycle starts on the day it's activated, not the day you pay, so the time it takes to set up your server doesn't come out of it.
Due date
The date an invoice must be paid by to avoid the service being affected. See Server statuses and Domain statuses for what happens after it passes.
Wallet balance
Credit held on your account that can pay an invoice instantly, with no redirect to a payment page. You add it with Top up your wallet, at least $15 per top-up. It can pay an invoice only when the balance covers the whole amount, and an empty wallet isn't offered.
Payment gateway
The service that processes a card or cryptocurrency payment, shown in Dash under the name Dash gives it. Paying with wallet balance settles instantly and does not use a gateway.
Automatic payment
A setting on each service that pays renewal invoices from your wallet balance as soon as they're issued, so you don't have to pay them by hand. You turn it on from the service's Billing tab.
Promo code
A code that takes a discount off a new order in Dash. See Using a promo code.
Reactivation
Restoring a server that was terminated recently because its renewal wasn't paid. It's offered case by case when you ask Customer Care, and the server then waits on a reactivation invoice that includes a one-time late fee. See Waiting for payment.
Provisioning
The setup work that happens after an order is paid and before a service is ready to use.
Reserved CPU cores
On Premium Linux, Premium Windows, and Forex VPS plans, the plan's full core count is allocated to your VPS. The cores are reserved for it, but they are not dedicated physical CPUs.
Reinstall
Installing a server's operating system again from a clean state. It erases the server's existing data and is carried out by our team as a support request, not instantly.
IPMI
Hardware-level remote access to a Dedicated Server or GPU Dedicated Server, used mainly for recovery when the operating system is unreachable. Requesting it in Dash gives you access details that expire after 2 hours.
Ticket
A support conversation opened from the Support page. See Ticket statuses explained for what its status means.
Customer Care
The support team that receives every new ticket first. They answer directly when they can and route the ticket onward when it needs deeper review.
Domain transfer
Moving a domain's registration from another registrar to PerLod. It is different from registering a new domain. See Buying a domain.
EPP code
The authorization code a domain's current registrar issues to prove a transfer is allowed. It is also called a transfer code or auth code. In Dash, transfer lock must be off before you can request it. PerLod emails it to the registrant email address in the domain's WHOIS information, after the registrant confirms the request from a link sent to that address.
Transfer lock
A domain setting that blocks transfer requests while it's on. It must be turned off before the domain can be transferred to another registrar.
Nameservers
The DNS servers a domain points to. Dash offers PerLod DNS (managed for you) or Custom DNS (up to four nameservers of your own).
DNSSEC
A domain security feature that publishes DS records to the registry so resolvers can detect tampered DNS answers. In Dash it is a list of DS records, not a single on/off switch.
WHOIS contact details
A domain setting that decides whether the registrant's name, address, email address, and phone number appear in the public WHOIS record. It is Hidden by default under GDPR, and you can make it Public. It is separate from the WHOIS information itself, which is the contact record this setting hides or shows.
