Domain billing and lifecycle
A domain renews only when its renewal invoice is paid. Billing is on the Billing tab of the domain's page in Dash.
Lifecycle: Active → invoice issued (30 days before expiry, with Auto-renew on) → paid: renewed / unpaid at expiry: Expired
Renewal
- With Auto-renew on, a renewal invoice is issued 30 days before expiry, due on the expiry date.
- You pay it, or automatic payment does.
- Once paid, the domain renews for another term.
With Auto-renew off, no invoice is issued and the domain expires at the end of its term.
Auto-renew
On the Renewal panel, select the Auto-renew switch. Turning it on applies immediately. Turning it off asks you to confirm with Turn off auto-renew.
Automatic payment
On the Renewal panel, turn on Automatic payment and confirm. The renewal invoice is then paid from your wallet balance as soon as it's issued.
- It needs Auto-renew on, because that's what issues the invoice.
- If the balance is short, the invoice stays unpaid and payment is retried every hour until expiry.
At expiry
If the renewal invoice is still unpaid on the expiry date:
- The domain becomes Expired, and the Management tab disappears.
- The renewal invoice is cancelled.
- After expiry, recovery and availability depend on the domain's registry and registrar lifecycle. To recover an expired domain, contact Customer Care as soon as possible.
Stop paying for a domain
There's no cancel action. Turn Auto-renew off, and the domain expires at the end of its term. Refunds are covered by the Money-Back Guarantee & Refund Policy.
